Brad Pitt makes statement in support of President Obama
President Obama has gained a few outward supporters after his recent progress with the enforcement of marijuana legislation. After making his decision to back off on the recreational use of marijuana in states where it is now legal, Brad Pitt and John Legend spoke out in support.
President Obama should be commended for expressing the will of the people in Colorado and Washington. Our jails are overburdened with nonviolent drug users, too often serving harsher sentences than violent criminals, the two said in a statement, reports E! News.
Pitt and Legend are the two executive producers on the documentary The House I Live In which focuses on Americas war on drugs. The award-winning documentary attempts to gain focus on the belief of the need for reforms to certain drug laws.
After hearing the presidents statement regarding marijuana use in Colorado and Washington, where recreational pot use is legal for adults, the producers released their statement in support. The Huffington Post reports that their joint statement also included voice from Russell Simmons, Danny Glover and Eugene Jarecki.
The presidents statement reflects a saner and more sensible drug policy, and a step away from the decades-long failed war on drugs, they added in their statement.
