Justin Theroux makes discreet calls to Brad Pitt!

Justin Theroux has secretly been in touch with Brad Pitt in a bid to end the tension between Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie.

Justin, 41, is anxious for the couples to put the past behind them and has turned to one-time rival Brad, 49, to help.

'It's rather hopeful on Justin's part but it was a big step for him,' says a source.

'He'd previously asked Jen to cut contact with Brad, so to ring for his help was a little difficult.'

Although Jen, 43, and Ange, 37, have tried to keep a dignified silence, pals on both sides have fuelled their feud - most recently when Jen's BFF Chelsea Handler called Ange 'kind of evil'.

Our source adds: 'Justin doesn't necessarily want them to be friends, but at least civil, especially as they're both engaged now.'
