Brad Pitt is in final negotiations to star in the World War II drama "Fury," according to Deadline.com.
"The action takes place in 1945 as the Nazi regime collapses and the five-man crew of an American tank called Fury battles a desperate German army," Deadline's report said.
The movie is written and will be directed by David Ayer, the writer of such films as "Training Day" and "Harsh Times" whose last writing and directing effort, last year's "End of Watch," garnered critical acclaim.
With "Fury," Ayer says he wants to "bring a fresh execution to the genre.
"What these men went through is worthy of a complex, honest portrayal. This will have incredible, visceral action and complex rich characters. I plan to bring tank combat to life in a way that lands with a modern audience," Deadline quoted him as saying.
The film will start production in September.
Before then, Pitt can be seen on the big screen in the zombie action film "World War Z," opening June 21.
Upcoming for Ayer is the thriller "Ten," starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sam Worthington and Terrence! Howard. It's scheduled to open in January.
