Brad Pitt leads New York film awards

Brad Pitt has once again been honoured with success in the sought-after Best Actor category at last nights New York Film Critics Circle Awards.

The Hollywood star, who also picked up the best actor accolade at the Palm Springs International Film Festival in California last Saturday, was joined by partner Angelina Jolie at the Manhattan awards ceremony when picking up the prize for his roles in drama The Tree of Life and sports biography Moneyball.

Meanwhile, silent comedy-romance film The Artist extended its success after being awarded Best Picture, while Michel Hazanavicius who also wrote the screenplay picked up the Best Director award.

Two-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep received the Best Actress accolade for her role as former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the recently-released drama The Iron Lady, while Jessica Chastain Pitts co-star in The Tree of Life collected the Best Supporting Actress award.

Albert Brooks won the Best Supporting Actor award for his portrayal of Bernie Rose in crime-thriller Drive, while other winners included Emmanuel Lubezki for Best Cinematographer for The Tree of Life, Aaron Sorkin and Steven Zaillian for Best Screenplay for Moneyball, and Raoul Ruiz, who picked up the evenings Special Award.
