Brad Pitt is reportedly out of the running to play the villain in The Counselor.

In February, the World War Z star was reported to be a contender for the role in Ridley Scott's next project.

However, Pitt is now said to be taking a smaller role in the film - that of Westray, a business associate of the titular counsellor, according to Twitch Film.

Michael Fassbender will play the counsellor, while Jeremy Renner and Javier Bardem are in talks for the role of the villain.

Pitt recently joined George Clooney for a one-night-only fundraising performance of the same-sex marriage play 8.

Fassbender recently worked with Scott on Prometh! eus .

Prometheus will open on June 8 in the US and on June 1 in the UK.
