Brad Pitt and Other Celebs Who Designed Engagement Rings
Ever since Brad Pitt's kids made him pop the question to their mom, the web has been abuzz with talk of Angelina Jolie's ring.
The sizable rock, which is laden with emerald-cut diamonds, is supposedly the fruit of Brad Pitt's creative genius...with some help from jeweler Robert Procop. According to a rep, Pitt "remained heavily involved, overseeing every aspect of the creative design process from the perfect cut of the diamond centerpiece...to the finishing touches." While helping to design the ring (which is worth an estimated $500k) was an undeniably thoughtful and romantic gesture, the "Moneyball" star gets no props for originality. In fact, a whole host of Hollywood husbands have taken a hands-on role in the creation of the perfect ring. Here's a look at some extra-special sparklers that were designed - at least in part - by the men who gave them.
Nick Cannon definitely had wife Mariah Carey's taste in mind when he designed her monstrous engagement ring. The comedian-turned-rapper worked with Jacob Arabo of Jacob & Co. to design his bride's rock, which is reportedly worth a staggering $2.5 million. The ring features a square emerald-cut pink diamond in the center, which is surrounded by 58 smaller pink diamonds and has two additional half-moon-shaped diamonds on the sides. Yowza!
When choreographer Benjamin Millepied prop osed to actress Natalie Portman, he knew that the ring's background was just as important as the ring itself. Keeping the vegan and ecofriendly values of his bride in mind, the "Black Swan" star worked with designer Jamie Wolf to create a beautiful ring from recycled platinum and antique, conflict-free diamonds. According to Wolf, "Ben was exceptionally thoughtful and dedicated and patient to make sure we had everything right." She added, "We wanted everything about the ring to speak to things that are important to Natalie." We think Natalie is a very lucky woman.
Though she once claimed she'd never marry again, Oscar-winner Halle Berry recently accepted an engagement ring designed especially for her by future husband Olivier Martinez. Just before Christmas, the French actor and restaurant owner approached Lebanese jeweler Robert Mazlo, whose family has designed pieces for European royalty for generations. According to reports, Martinez "said he wanted to produce the most beautiful ring ever made - money was no object and he only wanted the finest materials involved." The groom even took an ancient "alchemy test" to help create the perfect ring, which ended up being a diamond and emerald sparkler set in yellow gold.
"True Blood" star Stephen Moyer, who is expecting his first child with wife and costar Anna Paquin, turned to close friend Cathy Waterman for help designing an engagement ring. "Watching [Step! hen] fal l in love with Anna was magical," Waterman said. "He lights up around her...and she glows when he's around." Of the design process, the jeweler had nothing but praise for Moyer, saying "He put such thought and care into the ring he proposed with...hours looking into stones, looking for the reflection that said 'Anna.' And he nailed it." The mom-to-be's ring, a 1.5 carat round, rough-cut diamond in a vintage-style setting, does seem perfect for Paquin.
Although Molly Sims has added "jewelry designer" to her resume, fiance Scott Stuber turned to Diane von Furstenberg for help designing the perfect ring. Sims, who is expecting the couple's first child this summer, gushed about her gorgeous ring, saying, "I'm like, 'Oh my God, it's mine!'" Though she admits she has no idea how large the cushion-cut diamond is, she doesn't hesitate to give Stuber credit for its design. She beamed, "He designed it. He did it with my girlfriend on his own. He surprised me; I never sent him a picture. He did it all." Sounds like Scott picked a winner in more ways than one!
