Brad Pitt's mother bashes Obama in local paper
LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Looks like Brad Pitt is at odds with his mother in this year's presidential election.
Jane Pitt, the actor's mother, urged fellow Christians to vote for presumed Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, setting aside any preconceptions of his Mormon faith. She pilloried President Obama, calling him "a liberal who supports the killing of unborn babies and same-sex marriage."
The 142-word letter, published Friday in the Springfield News-Leader, conflicts with the three-time Oscar nominee's open support of same-sex marriage and Obama's re-election campaign. Pitt also recently acted alongside George Clooney in Milk screenwriter Dustin Lance Black's 8, a play about California's voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage.
Verifying Jane Pitt's identity proved a confusing task, as the Missouri newspaper denied the connection between the letter's author and the Ocean's Eleven star. Later, it was replaced by a second editor's note saying: "To clear up earlier confusion, the News-Leader has verified the letter writer is the mother of actor Brad Pitt and local businessman Doug Pitt."
The letter came as a response to another op-ed published last month that attempted to vindicate Christians who refuse to vote for Romney on the basis of his faith.
But Jane Pitt wasn't sold on the argument.
"I think any Christian should spend much time in prayer before refusing to vote for a family man with high morals, business experience, who is against abortion, and shares Christian conviction concerning homosexuality just because he is a Mormon," she wrote.
"Any Christian who does not vote or writes in a name is casting a vote for Romney's opponent, Barack Hussein Obama -- a man who sat in Jeremiah Wright's church for years."
