Brad Pitt's mum says 'no' to gay weddings

Brad Pitt did not inherit his liberal politics from his mother. Jane Pitt has caused a stir by writing to her local newspaper urging voters to vote for Republican Mitt Romney in November's US presidential election due to Barack Obama's backing of gay marriage.

Arguing that conventional Christians should not hold Mr Romney's Mormon faith against him, Ms Pitt wrote in Missouri's Springfield News-Leader that anyone voting for Mr Obama or abstaining from the election "is a liberal who supports the killing of unborn babies and same-sex marriage".

Pitt backs gay marriage, saying in an interview last year: "It is each American's Constitutional right to marry the person they love, no matter what state they inhabit... No state should decide who can marry and who cannot."
