'Killing Them Softly' Trailer: Brad Pitt And James Gandolfini Shine Amidst Quirky Violence
An adaptation of the George. V. Higgins 1974 novel Cogans Trade, Andrew Dominiks Killing Them Softly has the look and feel of a low-key 1970s crime flick, the kind of film Don Siegel would have directed between Dirty Harry and Charley Verrick. Starring Brad Pitt, James Gandolfini, and Ray Liotta, it looks like a callback to the noirish classicism of crime films that that existed before the epileptic releases of directors like Guy Richie, etc. Check out the trailer below.
In the film, Brad Pitt stars as Jackie Cogan, a mob enforcer/ clean-up man who is charged with finding a pair of thugs who robbed Ray Liottas mob-run poker gameand at some point, Pitt joins forces with former Sopranos heavy James Gandolfini to find the pair of criminals. Dig it:
Its nice to see Pitt teaming up with his former The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford director, just as much as its kind of disorienting to see Gandolfini in a mob role once again. And while its a drag that Killing Them Softly has been pushed back by The Weinstein Company f! rom September 21st to October 19th (so as not to compete with the studios early release of Paul Thomas Andersons The Master), hey, it gives us something to look forward to, right?
What do you think of the trailer?
