Brad Pitt's Chanel No.5 ad revealed

Brad Pitt's Chanel No.5 advert has been unveiled.

The 'Fight Club' star can be seen for the first time in Chanel's dramatic new ad campaign, talking about the rich history of the iconic perfume.

The video, filmed in black and white apart from the golden perfume bottle, sees the Hollywood actor speaking in a seductive voice, musing: 'It's not a journey. Every journey ends, but we go on. The world turns and we turn with it. Plans disappear, dreams take over, but wherever I go, there you are: my luck; my fate; my fortune. Chanel No.5, inevitable.'

As well as women all over the world being grateful for Chanel choosing Brad to star in the advert, this is also a break-through for the company since he is the first ever male to become the face of the fragrance.

He takes over from Audrey Tautou, Nicole Kidman and Vanessa Paradis to create what Chanel fragrance expert Joanna Norman describes as 'a massive coup' for the house.

She told The Telegraph newspaper earlier this year: 'No one, as far as I know, has ever used a male icon to promote a female fragrance.

'There is a dual element: for women, there's an appreciation that it's something different; for boys, it makes them think, 'That will impress my girlfriend'. It's a brilliant example of a classic rejuvenated via a youthful icon.'

Frederic Malle, perfumer and curator of an eponymous fragrance line, agreed with Joanna, saying: 'You change the slant, and say, 'Chanel No.5 is the fragrance that men want women to wear.' The optimum man is Brad Pitt.

'This doesn't compromise their image; Chanel No.5 can still be considered the essence of Chanel, their Mona Lisa. It sounds obvious when you explain it, but to come up with that reasoning - they're very good. It's a good idea.'
